Balu Forge Industries Secures Landmark Defence Contract for 155mm Advanced Artillery Shells
Balu Forge Industries Ltd (BFIL) has announced a major milestone in its defence sector operations, securing its first multi-month purchase order for advanced 155mm artillery shells from an Indian ammunition player.
Key Contract Highlights:
Product: 155mm Extended Range Full Bore – Base Bleed (ERFB BB) and Boat Tail (ERFB BT) shells.
Volume: An initial pilot supply of 10,000 units, followed by regular monthly deliveries based on mutually agreed quantities.
Milestone: BFIL becomes one of the first private entities in India to successfully commercialize these advanced, next-generation ammunition variants.
Strategic Rationale:
Indigenization & Modernization: The contract directly supports the Indian Armed Forces' artillery upgrade efforts, as these shells are compatible with advanced indigenous platforms like the Dhanush and ATAGS systems.
Manufacturing Validation: This win validates BFIL’s state-of-the-art forging, machining, and automation capabilities, particularly at its fully automated Belgaum plant.
Outlook:
This order significantly accelerates BFIL’s ascent up the defence manufacturing value chain. Coupled with its recent NATO certification and ongoing mass production of standard 152mm/155mm M107 projectiles, the company is strategically positioning itself as a critical, high-precision manufacturing partner for both domestic defence needs and the global military supply chain, with further expansion planned into multi-alloy forgings and its energetics division.
