Bharat Forge to Set Up India's First Private Marine Gas Turbine Facility in Visakhapatnam
Bharat Forge has signed an MoU with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to establish India's first private-sector Marine Gas Turbine (MGT) facility in Visakhapatnam. Located on ~80 acres within the Defence Manufacturing Corridor, the project aims to domesticate repair, overhaul, and manufacturing capabilities for naval propulsion systems. Key Highlights: Strategic Objective: Reduce dependence on overseas MRO for marine gas turbines — critical propulsion systems for Indian Navy warships. Phased Execution: Phase 1: Full MGT Repair & Overhaul complex with hot-section restoration, NDE lab, and 72-hour turnaround support for Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam. Phase 2: India's first private-sector MGT Development & Assembly Hall, including a hot test cell and indigenous turbine qualification. Location Advantage: Co-located with Naval Dockyard, INS Eksila, and Eastern Naval Command for seamless sustainment support. Employment & Export Potential: Expected to create ~750 jobs and serve as a regional R&O hub for allied navies. Strategic Significance: Aatmanirbhar Bharat: Advances naval self-reliance by bringing critical defence propulsion capabilities onto Indian soil. Private Sector Leadership: Bharat Forge becomes the first private entity to undertake end-to-end MGT services — a high-entry-barrier, technology-intensive domain. Defence Corridor Synergy: Strengthens Andhra Pradesh's emerging defence manufacturing ecosystem and export potential. Outlook: Successful execution could position Bharat Forge as a strategic partner for the Indian Navy and friendly foreign navies. The project aligns with India's defence indigenisation roadmap and opens avenues for technology partnerships and long-term annuity-style MRO contracts. $BHARATFORG
