BHEL Bags ₹2,600 Crore Order for Anuppur Thermal Project, Wins Tax Relief

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a Letter of Intent (LoI) from MB Power, Madhya Pradesh, for the supply of boiler, turbine, and generator (BTG) for the 800 MW Anuppur Thermal Power Project, valued at approximately ₹2,600 crore (ex-GST). The order includes associated auxiliaries, controls, and instrumentation, with equipment to be manufactured at BHEL’s plants in Trichy and Haridwar and executed within 58 months. This win reinforces BHEL’s role in supporting India’s thermal power infrastructure amid the energy transition. In a related development, BHEL received relief from the CGST Commissioner, Dehradun, which dropped a ₹31.2 crore GST evasion notice after the company successfully appealed against the show-cause notice, marking a favorable outcome in its tax dispute. However, BHEL was fined ₹536,900 each by BSE and NSE for failing to maintain the required number of independent directors on its board—falling below 50% of board strength as of June 2025. As a state-owned enterprise, BHEL’s director appointments depend on central government approvals. The mixed developments highlight BHEL’s ongoing operational strengths alongside governance compliance challenges.
