Chambal Fertilisers Commences WNA Production at Gadepan; HDAN Launch Imminent
Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited (CFCL) has announced the commencement of Weak Nitric Acid (WNA) production at its Gadepan facility in Rajasthan, marking a key milestone in its Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) project. WNA serves as a critical intermediate for producing Ammonium Nitrate Solution (ANS) and prilled High Density Ammonium Nitrate (HDAN), with commercial production of these downstream products expected to follow shortly.
Key Highlights:
Phased Rollout: WNA commissioning validates process readiness; ANS and HDAN launch to complete the integrated value chain.
Location Advantage: Gadepan site leverages existing ammonia/urea infrastructure, enabling cost-efficient backward integration.
Product Application: HDAN is a key input for industrial explosives used in mining, infrastructure, and defense — diversifying CFCL beyond agro-chemicals.
Strategic Significance:
Portfolio Diversification: Reduces dependence on seasonal fertilizer demand by entering the high-margin industrial chemicals segment.
Import Substitution: Supports India's Atmanirbhar Bharat goals by domesticating HDAN supply for the explosives industry.
Capacity Utilization: Enhances asset productivity at Gadepan through integrated production of nitrogen-based derivatives.
Outlook:
Successful ramp-up of ANS/HDAN production will unlock new revenue streams and improve overall plant economics. Execution focus now shifts to quality certification, customer onboarding in the explosives sector, and safe scale-up of hazardous chemical handling.
