Fire at ONGC’s Uran Plant Disrupts Mumbai’s Gas Supply

A fire at ONGC’s Uran gas processing plant on Tuesday afternoon disrupted natural gas supply to Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), affecting distribution across Mumbai. The blaze, extinguished within two hours, caused no injuries but led to a temporary halt in gas flow. In response, MGL prioritized domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) users, ensuring uninterrupted supply to households. However, CNG stations faced low pipeline pressure, leading to supply issues, while industrial and commercial customers were advised to switch to alternative fuels. Full restoration depends on ONGC resuming normal operations. The incident highlights the vulnerability and interdependence of India’s energy infrastructure, emphasizing the need for resilient systems and coordinated emergency response in critical sectors.
