GAIL India's Q1 FY26 Performance and Strategy

GAIL India reported a 25% YoY drop in net profit to ₹2,382.24 crore in Q1 FY26, with a 5% sequential decline as well. Revenue rose marginally by 1.7% to ₹35,428.81 crore but fell 3% sequentially. The profit dip was due to weak summer gas demand and competition from cheaper alternate fuels like naphtha. The company expects global gas prices to ease and crude prices to remain in the $60–$70 range barring geopolitical shocks. For FY26-27, GAIL has planned a capex of ₹12,000 crore, focusing on pipelines, petrochemicals, and net-zero initiatives. Key projects are expected to be completed in FY25-26, including major pipeline expansions and new petrochemical units. Despite revising gas transmission guidance downward to 132 mmscmd, GAIL maintains its marketing margin target of ₹4,000–4,500 crore for FY26. It continues to hedge against price volatility while pursuing long-term growth through infrastructure expansion and cleaner energy solutions.
