India’s First Commercial MCM Shipped by Kaynes Semicon Under Semiconductor Mission
In a landmark achievement for India’s tech ambitions, Kaynes Semicon Private Limited, a subsidiary of Kaynes Technology India Ltd, has shipped 900 Multi-Chip Modules (MCMs)—dubbed Intelligent Power Module (IPM5)—from its Sanand facility to global chipmaker Alpha & Omega Semiconductor (AOS). This marks India’s first commercially manufactured MCM under the India Semiconductor Mission 1.0.
The IPM5 integrates 17 dies—including IGBTs, controller ICs, FRDs, and diodes—into a single package, making it ideal for motor control in industrial and consumer applications.
The Sanand plant aims for full capacity of 6.3 million chips per day by January 2026, with AOS ramping up to 1.5 million chips/day by Q1 FY27. Strategic partnerships with AOS and Mitsui & Co. bolster production and supply chain capabilities.
CEO Raghu Panicker called it a “proud moment” for India’s semiconductor ecosystem. This milestone underscores India’s growing prowess in advanced semiconductor manufacturing, paving the way for self-reliance and attracting global investment in domestic chipmaking.
