IOC Announces ₹1.66 Lakh Crore Investment Plan to Expand Refining, Petrochemicals & Green Energy
Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), India’s largest oil refining and marketing company, has unveiled an ambitious ₹1.66 lakh crore investment plan over the next five years to expand and modernize its operations across the energy spectrum.
The plan includes:
Refining capacity increase from 80.75 to 98.4 million tonnes per annum by 2028, with upgrades at Panipat, Gujarat, and Barauni refineries.
Pipeline network expansion to 22,000 km, with 21 projects underway, including new storage facilities in Nepal.
A major push in petrochemicals, aiming to scale capacity from 4.3 million to over 13 million tonnes by 2030, focusing on specialty and high-value chemicals.
IOC also plans to future-proof its 40,000+ fuel station network by integrating EV chargers, battery-swapping stations, and CNG/LNG outlets, catering to India’s evolving mobility needs.
Complementing this, IOC is investing ₹2.5 lakh crore in energy transition to achieve net-zero operational emissions by 2046, including scaling renewable capacity from 1 GW to 18 GW in three years and expanding green hydrogen production.
With annual sales exceeding 100 million tonnes and serving 3.2 crore customers daily, IOC’s dual strategy of strengthening core operations while accelerating green initiatives underscores its leadership in India’s energy transformation.
