JSW Energy Increases Stake in Toshiba JSW Power Systems for ₹150 Cr

JSW Energy has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire an additional equity stake in Toshiba JSW Power Systems Private Limited (TJPS) for ₹150 crore, raising its holding to 20.7% (non-diluted) / 10.7% (fully diluted). The cash transaction, covering ~34.69 crore shares, is expected to close by June 15, 2026. Strategic Rationale: Supply Chain Security: TJPS operates a Chennai facility manufacturing supercritical/ultra-supercritical steam turbine generators (up to 1,000 MW). The increased stake ensures priority access to critical thermal equipment. Capacity Expansion Support: JSW Energy has already ordered 1,600 MW of TJPS units, supporting its plan to grow thermal capacity from 5,658 MW to 10,658 MW by 2030 as part of its broader 30 GW generation target. Partnership Deepening: Reinforces a two-decade alliance with Toshiba, combining global technology with domestic execution capability. Outlook: The investment de-risks JSW Energy's thermal expansion roadmap amid global supply chain volatility. By securing equipment visibility, the company can accelerate project commissioning and maintain cost discipline. Success hinges on TJPS's manufacturing ramp-up and timely delivery of ordered units.
