L&T's Strategic Push in Clean Energy and Sustainability

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is making significant strides in the clean energy sector, focusing on green hydrogen , small modular reactors (SMRs) , and decarbonisation solutions . With electrolyser manufacturing already underway, L&T holds a first-mover advantage in green hydrogen. It has also received US regulatory approval to transfer SMR technology to India, positioning itself as one of only three eligible Indian firms. The company is setting up green hydrogen and ammonia units in Kandla, Gujarat , and is capable of executing EPC projects globally in renewable fuels. L&T is leveraging its expertise in clean energy, mobility, water, and infrastructure to address climate resilience and sustainability needs. To guide its strategy, L&T has formed the Green Energy Council , comprising global experts. In FY24–25, it delivered 15.6 million sq ft of green-certified buildings and commissioned 4.3 GWp of solar capacity, taking its total renewable portfolio to 26.9 GWp. The company is rebranding its power business as CarbonLite Solutions , focusing on carbon capture, nuclear turbine islands, and pumped storage plants. L&T aims for water neutrality by 2035 and carbon neutrality by 2040 , with initiatives like zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems and plastic-free campuses already in place. Overall, L&T is aligning its growth with global decarbonisation goals and reinforcing its position at the forefront of India’s energy transition.
