Max Healthcare Enters Bhubaneswar with Acquisition of Kalinga Hospital

Max Healthcare Institute Ltd has entered the eastern Indian market by agreeing to acquire a 58.4% controlling stake in Kalinga Hospital Ltd for an equity value of ₹300 crore, marking its strategic expansion into Odisha. The 250-bed, NABH-accredited hospital, operational since 1997, is located in central Bhubaneswar and offers multi-specialty services in cardiology, neurology, oncology, orthopaedics, and more, supported by advanced diagnostics. With existing infrastructure spread over 10 acres and a built-up area of 2.6 lakh sq. ft., the facility has significant brownfield potential — capable of scaling up to over 1,000 beds, making it a key growth platform. Bhubaneswar has emerged as a regional healthcare hub, serving patients from Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal. This acquisition strengthens Max Healthcare’s national footprint beyond its core northern markets (Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Uttarakhand) and complements its presence in Mumbai and Nagpur. Calling it a rare opportunity, Max Healthcare MD Abhay Soi said the move enhances access to high-quality care in a fast-growing region while offering strong operational and expansion upside. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions.
