NCC secures ₹1,076 crore AP water supply order

NCC secured an official ₹1,076.71 crore drinking water supply contract from the Andhra Pradesh government on September 28. This addition reinforces its robust ₹70,000 crore order book with high-visibility state infrastructure work. The award covers rural water supply infrastructure, following a ₹430.19 crore buildings division win in August, and supports a Q1 FY27 where revenue grew 12% YoY to ₹5,842 crore. This validates the sustained state-level capex cycle, locking in multi-year execution visibility. I am watching the Q2 FY27 balance sheet for a concrete reduction in trade receivables, specifically tracking debtor days on state government projects and the billing conversion rate of this new water mandate by March 2027. The market is hyper-focused on the headline ₹70,000 crore order book, pricing NCC purely as a top-line momentum proxy. What the consensus misses is the hidden working capital risk in state water EPC. While winning a ₹1,076 crore order looks excellent on paper, rural water supply projects historically suffer from elongated state-government billing cycles and stretched debtor days. If receivables drag, operating cash flow will mechanically decouple from the 9.38% EBITDA margin. The real edge isn't in order acquisition, but in proving that NCC can execute this massive state pipeline without expanding its debt book to fund the working capital gap. Hold for working capital clarity; accumulate only on cash flow improvement. Disclosure: I do not hold positions in this stock.
