PNB Housing Finance Faces Leadership Uncertainty After CEO Girish Kousgi’s Sudden Resignation

PNB Housing Finance (PNBHF) is navigating a period of uncertainty following the unexpected resignation of Managing Director and CEO Girish Kousgi, effective October 28, 2025. Kousgi cited personal and career aspirations as the reason, clarifying it was unrelated to recent exits of private equity investors. However, the announcement triggered a sharp 20% fall in the stock over two sessions, reigniting concerns over ‘Key Man Risk’. This marks the fourth CEO change at PNBHF since 2020, highlighting leadership instability. Under Kousgi, the company made notable progress, including scaling its affordable housing franchise, improving asset quality, enhancing recoveries from written-off loans, and maintaining NIM stability amid fierce competition. Motilal Oswal Financial Services noted that while the board has reaffirmed its commitment to growth, the appointment of a seasoned, industry-savvy successor will be critical to sustain momentum. The Nomination and Remuneration Committee has begun a search, evaluating both internal and external candidates. The recent elevation of Jatul Anand and Valli Sekar to key roles suggests intent to continue the existing strategic roadmap. However, analysts stress that restoring investor confidence will depend on transparent leadership succession and continued strength in asset quality. The coming weeks will be crucial for PNBHF as it seeks stable leadership to drive its ongoing transformation.
