Power Grid Gets ₹914 Crore Nod for Cold Spare Transformers Across Regions

Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) has received investment approval for a ₹913.99 crore procurement plan to strengthen its transmission network resilience through the acquisition of cold spare transformers and reactors. The decision was approved by the Committee of Directors on Investment in Projects on January 20, 2026, and disclosed under SEBI LODR Regulation 30. The funds will be allocated across three regional power committees: Western Region (WRPC): ₹401.88 crore Southern Region (SRPC): ₹345.78 crore North Eastern Region (NERPC): ₹166.33 crore All projects will be executed over a 30-month timeline, ensuring synchronized implementation and enhanced grid reliability. Cold spares serve as critical backup assets, minimizing downtime during failures or maintenance. This proactive investment underscores POWERGRID’s commitment to strengthening national power infrastructure, improving operational continuity, and supporting India’s growing electricity demand with greater system stability.
