Reliance’s FMCG Expansion Play

Reliance Industries, under the leadership of Mukesh Ambani, is aggressively scaling up its fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) business with plans to spin off its Rs 11,500-crore FMCG division into a new entity—New Reliance Consumer Products. The move aims to double the business in two to three years by expanding its retail reach from 1 million to 4–5 million outlets. Already outpacing brands like Marico, Emami, and Tata Consumer's India business, Reliance's FMCG unit is rapidly catching up with Godrej Consumer Products and positioning itself as a challenger to market leaders like Hindustan Unilever and Nestlé India. The company is leveraging a three-pronged strategy: introducing affordable products across acquired and in-house brands, tapping regional tastes, and rolling out new categories such as biscuits, snacks, and home care through pilot projects. Key brands include Campa, Independence, SIL, Sosyo, Ravalgaon, and Velvette, along with strategic partnerships for products like Alan’s Bugles and Spinner sports drinks. With a vision to deliver global-quality products at Indian prices, Reliance is setting the stage for a major disruption in the competitive FMCG sector. The planned listing of the new entity in the future could further boost its growth trajectory and market presence.
