Schneider Electric’s Potential Acquisition of Temasek Stake in India Venture

Schneider Electric is reportedly in talks to acquire the remaining 35% stake in its Indian joint venture from Singapore-based Temasek for around $1 billion, which would value the entire business at approximately $5 billion including debt. The potential buyout comes as Temasek explores exit options, including a third-party sale or an IPO. The Indian venture, formed in 2020 after merging Schneider’s low-voltage and automation businesses with L&T’s electrical division, is a key growth engine in one of the world’s fastest-expanding energy markets. A full acquisition would give Schneider Electric complete control over strategic decisions, enabling faster execution of growth plans and deeper integration with its global operations. This move would also strengthen Schneider’s position in India’s growing infrastructure, smart buildings, and industrial automation sectors. With increasing demand for energy-efficient solutions, owning 100% of the venture could accelerate innovation, enhance market share, and support long-term expansion goals. Overall, the acquisition aligns with Schneider’s vision to lead in sustainable, digital energy management globally.
