Tata Motors Acquisition of Iveco
Tata Motors is reportedly close to acquiring Italian truck manufacturer Iveco in a potential $4.5 billion deal, as per a recent report in the Economic Times. If finalized, this would be the second-largest acquisition in Tata Group’s history after Corus and the largest for Tata Motors since its 2008 purchase of Jaguar Land Rover for $2.3 billion.
The stake being acquired is held by the Agnelli family through their investment firm Exor. While details remain unconfirmed, the deal could significantly expand Tata Motors’ global footprint in the commercial vehicle segment. The Economic Times suggested a formal announcement may come soon, though no official confirmation has been made yet.
Reuters had previously reported that Tata approached Exor about acquiring the controlling stake, possibly excluding Iveco’s defence business. Both company boards are currently in discussions. Investors will be closely watching for an official update, which could influence Tata Motors' stock price and strategic direction.
