Tata Motors Announces Major Leadership Overhaul
Tata Motors has announced key leadership changes effective October–November 2025, marking a strategic shift in its management structure. Shailesh Chandra has been appointed as MD & CEO for a three-year term, succeeding Guenter Butschek. Chandra, currently leading passenger and electric vehicles at Tata, will steer the company through its ongoing restructuring, including the demerger of its commercial vehicle unit.
In a major financial reshuffle, P.B. Balaji, Group CFO, will step down on November 17 to become CEO of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). He will join Tata Motors’ board as a Non-Executive Director. Dhiman Gupta, currently CFO of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, succeeds him as CFO of Tata Motors.
The board also sees exits of three independent directors—Hanne Sorensen, Kosaraju V. Chowdary, and Guenter Butschek—while Sudha Krishnan is set to join as an independent director.
The moves align with Tata Motors’ focus on passenger vehicles and electric mobility, reinforcing its commitment to strategic transformation, financial agility, and leadership continuity amid evolving market dynamics.
