TCS Partners with TPG to Invest ₹18,000 Crore in AI-Ready Data Centre Unit HyperVault
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has entered a landmark strategic partnership with global alternative asset manager TPG to scale up its AI-focused data centre venture, HyperVault, with a joint investment of up to ₹18,000 crore—one of India’s largest commitments in digital infrastructure.
Under the deal, TPG will invest up to ₹8,820 crore through its Rise Climate Fund and Asia Real Estate platform, while TCS contributes the balance, maintaining a 51:49 ownership structure. TPG’s stake in HyperVault is expected to range between 27.5% and 49%, depending on final tranches and approvals.
The capital will be deployed in phases to build gigawatt-scale, AI-ready data centres featuring liquid cooling and energy-efficient designs, catering to hyperscalers, AI firms, and enterprises seeking high-density computing within India.
TCS Chairman N. Chandrasekaran said the move strengthens India’s AI infrastructure and positions TCS as a leader in AI-led technology services. TPG’s Jim Coulter highlighted the synergy of technology, real estate, and green energy in building climate-positive digital infrastructure.
With current Indian data centre capacity at 1.2–1.5 GW and demand projected to grow tenfold in 5–6 years, HyperVault aims to fill a critical gap. Each 150 MW phase requires ~$1 billion, with revenue ramp-up expected 18–24 months post-launch.
Backed by long-term annuity models and rising data localization norms, HyperVault underscores TCS’s shift from IT services to owning core digital infrastructure, marking a transformative step in India’s AI and cloud evolution.
