Titagarh Rail Systems Aims for 1,500 Wagons per Month, Shifts Focus to Passenger Rail

Titagarh Rail Systems is targeting a monthly wagon production of 1,500 in FY26, up from its current capacity of 1,000–1,200, as it ramps up to make up for lost output in Q1 due to a wheelset shortage from Rail Wheel Factory. The supply crunch, which affected production in the past two quarters, is now easing, the company’s Vice Chairman & MD, Umesh Chowdhary, confirmed. With a freight wagon order book of ₹4,114 crore (10,772 wagons), Titagarh remains a key supplier to Indian Railways and is expecting new tenders from both public and private sectors. The company delivered 9,431 wagons last year and aims to match or exceed that performance. However, a major strategic shift is underway: passenger rail now drives growth. Out of its total order book of ₹26,000 crore, ₹22,000 crore is from passenger rail and other segments, signaling a dramatic pivot from its traditional freight-dominated business. This transition reflects Titagarh’s expanding capabilities in metro coaches, Vande Bharat trainsets, and international projects, positioning it at the forefront of India’s modern rail transformation.
