Titagarh Rolls Out First ‘Made in India’ Driverless Metro Trainset for Ahmedabad

Titagarh Rail Systems Limited has achieved a landmark milestone by rolling out the first indigenously manufactured driverless metro trainset for the Ahmedabad Metro Phase-2, at its Uttarpara, West Bengal facility. The event was graced by Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, who hailed it as a major step toward ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. The stainless steel-bodied trainsets boast 70–75% local content, advanced lightweight design, enhanced energy efficiency, and modern amenities including inclusive features for persons with reduced mobility. A highlight is the Garba-inspired interior theme, celebrating Gujarat’s cultural heritage. Equipped with state-of-the-art Train Control and Management System (TCMS), these trains will operate on two elevated corridors: Yellow Line: 23.8 km (Narendra Modi Stadium to Mahatma Mandir) Violet Line: 5.4 km (GNLU to GIFT City) Total network spans 28.26 km across 22 stations. VMCD Umesh Chowdhary emphasized Titagarh’s vision of positioning India as a global rail manufacturing hub. The company also showcased future plans for high-speed and Vande Bharat train production. This rollout underscores Titagarh’s growing engineering prowess and commitment to delivering sustainable, smart urban mobility solutions aligned with India’s Viksit Bharat vision.
