Zomato's Deepinder Goyal Ventures into Aviation with LAT Aerospace
Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal is expanding beyond the food tech sector and stepping into the aviation industry with a new startup, LAT Aerospace , co-founded by former Zomato colleague Surobhi Das . The venture aims to revolutionize regional air travel in India , making it more accessible, affordable, and convenient , especially for people in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
LAT Aerospace envisions a future where flying is as easy as taking a bus, using compact aircraft that can operate from small "air-stops" located near residential and commercial hubs. With 450+ airstrips currently underutilized , the company seeks to tap into untapped potential across the country.
The startup has already raised $50 million in funding , including $20 million from Goyal . It plans to build an entirely new ecosystem around regional connectivity, focusing on high-frequency, low-cost flights to connect underserved regions. As LAT Aerospace gears up for expansion, it is actively seeking talent in aerospace engineering and design to help bring its vision to the skies.
Hope this doesn't become a cash burn and drain Zomato's networth in near future as airlines as an industry have been wealth destructors everywhere especially in India.
