EMAMILTD
Emami Limited (EMAMILTD) has approved a ₹282 crore share buyback at a maximum price of ₹475 per share.
The company can buy back up to 59.37 lakh shares, equal to about 1.36% of its paid-up equity capital.
There is an important detail here. This is an open-market buyback. ₹475 is the maximum price, not a fixed price at which shareholders can tender their shares.
Emami has also committed to using at least 75% of the approved amount for the buyback. It plans to use ₹112.8 crore, or 40% of the maximum amount, during the first half of the buyback period.
My view is that the buyback is useful for shareholders, but the size matters. At ₹282 crore, the company is buying back only about 1.36% of its ***** I would not treat this as a reason to change the earnings outlook by itself.
What interests me more is the price actually paid. If Emami buys significantly below ₹475, the company can retire more shares with the same ₹282 ***** next trigger is the public announcement, which will provide the buyback timeline and other terms.
My stance: The buyback supports capital allocation, but I would judge Emami on earnings and cash generation rather than the buyback alone.
Disclosure: I do not hold Emami Limited.#StockInNews#WatchOutFor#EquityResearch#MacroViews#FundamentalViews
