GPT Infraprojects wins Rs 484 cr RVNL order

GPT Infraprojects Limited is awarded a contract worth 483.72 crore (inclusive of GST) by the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for construction of a major railway bridge over the Mahanadi River in Odisha. In the current financial year, the civil construction of this bridge will be awarded to RVNL by the Indian Railways. River bridges construction works are multi-year projects. Therefore, contracts for such projects provide a meaningful and reasonable revenue visibility for a considerable period. Order win announcements are a cause for celebration. However, when assessing their overall impact on a company, order value must be evaluated in relation to the existing order book and annual revenues. As a standalone project, the order value may not be significant to a large-cap peer. However, for a small-cap company, the order can have an immense positive impact on the company’s financials. Before assessing the order impact, I would also evaluate the historical execution margins for projects awarded by RVNL. The order value is positive and appreciates the company’s efforts, but a definitive view on the company’s financials cannot be assessed based on a single order value announcement.
