INDIA'S POWER TRANSMISSION SECTOR MAY SEE A CAPEX OF Rs 5-6 LAKH CRORE BY FY32
India’s power transmission sector is expected to witness a capital expenditure of Rs 5-6 lakh crore between FY27 and FY32, driven by the government’s plan to evacuate power from more than 900 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2035-36. This investment will support the strengthening of existing transmission infrastructure, the addition of evacuation capacity and the development of new transmission routes to integrate upcoming renewable energy capacity into the grid.
According to estimates, the sector would need to add around 20,000 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 120 gigavolt-amperes (GVA) of substation capacity annually to achieve the government’s transmission expansion targets.
