INDIAN CARMAKERS SHOW GOOD SALES IN APRIL MAKING IT A STRONG START TO FY27

Indian carmakers began the new financial year on a strong note, with an estimated 4.50 lakh units of passenger vehicles sold in the domestic market during April 2026, up by 27% compared to the 3.54 lakh units sold in April 2025. This time the auto industry continued to benefit from the GST rate cuts, along with interest rate cuts and income tax benefits.

MARUTI
posted a record domestic sales of 1.91 lakh units in April 2026, compared to 1.42 lakh units in April 2025, with major sales comprising small cars like Alto, S-Presso, Celerio and WagonR.
TMPV
reported a sales of 59,000 units in the domestic market in April 2026, as against 45,199 units in April 2025, a growth of 30%.
M&M
reported domestic passenger vehicle sales of 56,331 units in April 2026, compared to 52,330 units in April 2025, up 8%.
HYUNDAI
reported a 17% year-on-year growth in domestic sales to 51,902 units in April 2026. Overall domestic sales saw a significant increase, indicating a positive start to the financial year for the automotive sector.
