INDIAN RAILWAYS PLANNING TO LINK INDIA WITH BHUTAN BY CROSS-BORDER RAILWAY PROJECTS

Indian Railways is planning two cross-border railway projects of 69-km and 20-km length that will connect Bhutan with the bordering areas of Assam and West Bengal. The first line of 69-km from Kokrajhar in Assam to Gelephu in Bhutan will cost Rs 3,456 crore. The second line of 20-km from Banarhat in West Bengal to Samtse in Bhutan will cost Rs 577 crore. These railway lines will boost the export-import trade between the two countries. Further, these lines will be fully electrified and well-equipped to run modern trains such as Vande Bharat, including an advanced signalling system.
