INDIAN RAILWAYS WILL ADD 2000 NEW TRAINS OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS

In view of the evergrowing demand, Indian Railways plans to add 2,000 extra trains over the next four years, lifting the total to nearly 13,000 services ever day aiming to provide a confirmed reservation to every passenger. It is expected that the introduction of these new trains will raise the annual passenger capacity from 8 billion to 10 billion. The plan calls for introduction of new Vande Bharat trains, as well as a mix of Mail and Express services. Work is also under way on 1,000 rail overbridges and underpasses this financial year to cut level-crossing delays. With construction works and tendering already in hand, the first tranche of new trains is expected to enter service early in the current plan period, marking a pivotal step towards a wait-list-free railway.
