KARNATAKA GOVT RELEASED DRAFT PLAN FOR NEW LIQUOR POLICY

The Karnataka state government has issued a draft notification to amend alcohol taxation policy and make it based on actual alcohol content. The state plans to introduce an Alcohol-in-Beverage (AIB) based excise duty structure that taxes alcohol based on it's strength. This means higher the alcohol content in the Indian Made Liquor (IML), higher will be the tax rate on it. So it will bring down the cost of premium scotch whiskey and mild beer. Once this policy comes into effect, the state will become the first in India to introduce excise duty based on AIB. Liquor stock that will benefit from this policy are
