📉 Brokerage Stocks Slide Up to 10%: Is RBI’s Tightening the Trigger?

As on 16 February 2026, Monday, capital market stocks witnessed sharp selling pressure after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) tightened capital market exposure norms. Shares of

BSE
tumbled nearly 9.5%, while
ANGELONE
declined 6% and
GROWW
fell 5%. Other firms like JM Financial and Motilal Oswal also traded lower. The RBI’s revised norms mandate 100% collateral coverage for broker funding and higher cash blockage, effective April 1, 2026. The objective is to curb excessive speculation and strengthen risk management. While the move enhances long-term financial stability, near-term pressure on volumes and brokerage earnings has unsettled investors. Disclaimer: Investments in securities are subject to market risk.
