11 Single Candlestick Patterns Every Trader Should Know

You don’t always need complicated indicators to read a chart. Sometimes, a single candle can tell you a lot about the battle between buyers and sellers. Here are 11 candlestick patterns worth learning 👇 Potential bullish signals • Hammer: Long lower wick after a decline; buyers may be stepping in. • Inverted Hammer: Long upper wick after a decline; a possible bullish reversal signal. • Dragonfly Doji: Price falls but recovers near the opening level, showing rejection of lower prices. • Marubozu (Green): Strong buying pressure with little or no wick. • Spinning Top: Small body and wicks on both sides; indecision in the market. Potential bearish signals • Hanging Man: Appears after an uptrend and may warn of weakening buying strength. • Shooting Star: Long upper wick after a rise; sellers may be rejecting higher prices. • Gravestone Doji: Price moves higher but closes near the low, suggesting rejection of higher prices. Indecision / context matters • Long-legged Doji: Strong movement both ways, but little change between open and close. • Rickshaw Man Doji: A long-legged doji with the opening and closing prices near the middle of the range. • Shaven-head candle: A candle with little or no upper wick; its meaning depends on the candle colour and market context. Remember: No single candle guarantees a reversal. The same pattern can mean different things depending on the trend, support/resistance, volume and the candle that follows. Wait for confirmation instead of trading the pattern blindly. 📌 Bookmark this cheat sheet for your next chart analysis.
