India Holds Firm on Russian Oil Despite Trump’s Pressure..!

India has decided to continue importing oil from Russia, even after U.S. President Donald Trump warned of possible penalties. Trump, in a recent social media post, hinted at new trade tariffs and stricter actions if India didn’t reduce its purchases of Russian oil and arms. However, Indian officials say there won’t be any immediate change in policy, as these oil deals are long-term and can’t be stopped overnight. Russia is currently India’s biggest oil supplier, making up around 35% of the country’s total oil needs. Indian officials argue that by buying discounted Russian oil, they’ve helped stabilize global oil prices, which could have spiked otherwise. Unlike oil from Iran or Venezuela, Russian crude isn't directly sanctioned, and India is buying it below the price cap set by the European Union. Despite political pressure, India maintains that its decisions are based on market conditions and national interest. While Trump pushes for a quick peace deal in Ukraine and threatens steep tariffs on countries trading with Russia, India is focused on securing affordable energy for its massive population. Still, there’s a twist — Indian state-run refiners have recently paused Russian oil purchases as discounts have dropped. At the same time, Nayara Energy, a private refinery with Russian links, is facing EU sanctions, adding more complications.
