India’s Electronics Export Boom – A Make in India Success Story!

India’s electronics exports have hit a new milestone! In Q1 of FY26 (April–June 2025), exports surged 47% YoY to $12.4 billion, compared to the same quarter last year. Why this is big: • In 2014-15, India’s electronics production was just $31 billion. • In a decade, it has grown over 4x to $133 billion. • Exports too jumped from ₹38,000 crore (2014-15) to ₹3.27 lakh crore (2024-25) – an 8-fold increase. Mobile Phones Lead the Way: • 2014: Only 26% of phones sold in India were made here. • 2024: Now, 99.2% of all phones sold in India are Made in India. • Mobile manufacturing value skyrocketed from ₹18,900 crore (FY14) to ₹4.22 lakh crore (FY24). What Changed? • Govt pushed ‘Make in India’ + PLI schemes. • India moved from just 2 mobile plants in 2014 to 300+ today. • Growth isn’t just in mobiles – solar modules, chargers, networking devices, and electronic parts also power exports. Why it Matters for India: • Makes India the world’s 2nd largest mobile phone manufacturer. • Creates jobs at scale in manufacturing. • Reduces import dependency, strengthens Aatmanirbhar Bharat. • Boosts India’s share in global supply chains. In just 10 years, India transformed from a mobile importer into an electronics export powerhouse. The momentum shows India is on track to become a global manufacturing hub.
