Lupin in News: Launches New Diabetes Drug in US, Gets USFDA Observations – Stock in Focus
Lupin, one of India’s top pharmaceutical companies, is in the spotlight after two major updates from the United States. Launch of New Diabetes Medicine Lupin has launched a new diabetes injection called Liraglutide Injection (18 mg/3 mL) in the US market. This medicine is used along with diet and exercise to control blood sugar in adults and children (10 years and older) who have Type-2 Diabetes. It is bioequivalent to a well-known medicine called Victoza made by Novo Nordisk, which means Lupin’s version works the same way but will likely be more affordable. The company said this launch shows its growing strength in complex injectable medicines and its aim to make important treatments available to more patients. USFDA Observations While this launch is good news, Lupin also got some issues flagged by the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA). The USFDA inspected Lupin’s Pithampur Unit-2 plant (in Madhya Pradesh) in July 2025 and issued a Form 483 with four observations. This means the USFDA found some areas that need improvement in how the factory operates or maintains records. The inspection result was classified as Official Action Indicated (OAI) — meaning the USFDA may take further action unless Lupin fixes the issues. Lupin said it is already working with the USFDA to solve these problems and ensure full compliance with quality standards. Other Recent Developments Just a few days ago, Lupin also launched a children’s medicine in the US — Rivaroxaban for Oral Suspension, used to treat and prevent blood clots. In short: Lupin’s new diabetes drug launch is a positive sign for its US business. But investors will also watch how quickly it resolves the USFDA observations to maintain smooth exports.
