Market Closing Summary - 22 April, 2026
A weak open turned into a controlled grind lower, but the damage wasn’t broad-based. Under the surface, participation actually held up, midcaps stayed resilient and advances comfortably beat declines. This wasn’t panic selling, it was concentrated pressure. IT dragged the index hard today, while money quietly rotated into energy, defence and PSU pockets. That divergence is key - index down, but pockets still trending. USD/INR ticking higher and crude staying firm kept sentiment slightly cautious through the day. On positioning, heavy call build-up near 24500–25000 continues to cap upside, while 24000 remains the nearest cushion from the put side. Structurally, market is not breaking down - it’s compressing with sector rotation. Question now is simple, does IT stabilize, or does it keep acting as the weight on the index tomorrow.
