NSE Launches Nifty Waves Index – A New Benchmark for Media & Entertainment!

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has introduced a brand-new index called the Nifty Waves Index on May 2, 2025. It was launched during WAVES 2025, a big event for the entertainment world, held at the Jio World Centre, Mumbai. What is the Nifty Waves Index? Think of it as a special list that tracks how well 43 companies in the media, entertainment, gaming, and publishing industries are doing in the stock market. The index starts with a base value of 1,000. It includes big names like: • Nazara Technologies (gaming) • Zee Media • Zee Entertainment • PVR Inox (cinema) • Saregama India (music) • Network18, and more. Each company’s weight in the index is capped at 5%, so no single company dominates it. Why It Matters? • It helps investors easily track the performance of India’s growing entertainment sector. • The index shows how the media & gaming economy is evolving. • Great tool for investors who want to focus only on entertainment-related companies. NSE CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan said the index has 43 companies now, but in the future, it might have 10 or even 100 times more. In simple words, just like a music playlist has all your favourite songs in one place, the Nifty Waves Index puts the top entertainment companies together in one list to watch how they’re performing in the stock market!
