Nifty and Sensex opened with a gap-up but lost momentum as the day progressed, ending almost flat. Bank Nifty stayed weak throughout the session, keeping the overall market under pressure. The broader market was also weak. Midcaps and Smallcaps closed lower, with 1,776 stocks declining against 1,543 advances. Consumer Durables, Chemicals and Media led the gains, while Capital Markets, Internet and Realty saw the most selling. Among stocks, Dixon Technologies jumped over 6% after the government's ₹62,500 crore PLI 2.0 approval for mobile phones and semiconductors. ABB India also gained more than 6% following strong updates from its global parent. The rupee weakened to 96.35, while Brent crude remained elevated near $84.8. Overall, the market is still struggling to sustain higher levels. Stock-specific action remains stronger than the broader market, with Nifty continuing to trade in a narrow range.
