Post market analysis of Indian stock market on 8th may, 2025

Today’s market was volatile. It started quietly with little movement but fell sharply in the afternoon due to rising India-Pakistan tensions. After 1 PM, reports came in that: • India carried out drone attacks on Pakistan, in response to Pakistan's attempt to target multiple cities in northern and western India using drones and missiles in the mid night. • These threats were successfully intercepted by Indian air defence systems. This news created panic among investors, and the market dropped sharply: • NIFTY 50 fell over 220 points, • NIFTY Bank dropped over 730 points, • Sensex tumbled more than 740 points. Global Market Snapshot • Asian markets: Mixed performance - Japan, China, Hong Kong: Closed higher. - Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore: Ended lower. • European markets: Trading positive as investors awaited UK interest rate decision. Other Key Highlights: • FIIs were net buyers for the 14th day in a row, investing ₹2,007.96 crore today — showing strong trust in Indian markets, even during this tense time. • Globally, the US Fed kept interest rates unchanged, which helped calm global markets for now. Takeaway for us, Investors: • Geopolitical tensions can cause sudden and sharp movements in markets. • Diversifying investments and staying calm during uncertain times is key. • Keep an eye on global cues as they can have a quick impact on your portfolio.
