Post Market Review - 16 March, 2026
The final hour completely changed the tone of the session. Nifty finished at 23,408 with a sharp late surge, led mainly by strength in Auto, Private Banks and consumption-oriented sectors. The index strength was clear, but broader participation remained weak as declines continued to outnumber advances. Midcaps stayed under pressure even as the headline indices pushed higher, suggesting the rally was largely driven by index heavyweights rather than broad market buying. Realty, Oil & Gas and healthcare names lagged through the session, while logistics, internet and services stocks saw steady interest. That last-hour push shows institutions were active near the close but the narrow breadth is something the market will need to improve if this move is to sustain.
