Post Market Review - 17 March, 2026

Nifty ended the session on a strong note, closing at 23,581 (+0.74%), with gains supported across broader markets. Bank Nifty rose 0.85%, while midcaps (+1.02%) and smallcaps (+0.83%) outperformed, indicating improving risk appetite beyond frontline stocks. Market breadth remained positive with 1,934 advances vs 1,299 declines, reflecting broad participation in today’s move. Most sectors closed in the green. Metals (+2.8%), capital markets (+2.1%), autos (+2.1%) and internet stocks (+2.2%) led the rally, along with strength in logistics, defence and realty. On the flip side, IT (-0.97%) and FMCG (-0.75%) lagged, suggesting some rotation away from defensives. Meanwhile, USD/INR remained stable near 92.37, indicating no major currency pressure during the session. Overall, the structure suggests improving sentiment after recent volatility, but global cues and oil price movement will remain key factors to watch for the next session.
