Power Grid Corporation of India has been declared the successful bidder for developing standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a total capacity of 2,000 MWh (1,000 MW × 2 hours) in Andhra Pradesh. As part of this initiative, the company will set up a 150 MW / 300 MWh battery energy storage system at the 400/220 kV substation in Kalikiri, Chittoor district. This win strengthens Power Grid’s role beyond transmission into grid-scale energy storage, supporting renewable integration, grid stability, and India’s clean energy transition, while adding long-term strategic value to its project portfolio.
