Pre Market Report | 19 August

US markets closed lower again, mainly led by weakness in tech. Nasdaq fell more compared to other indices, showing pressure in that space. Brent is now around $92 and holding at higher levels. This is important for us because higher crude directly impacts India. At the same time, USD/INR is near 95.68, still at weak levels. This combination is not comfortable for our market. Asian markets are also mostly negative this morning, which shows that global mood is not very supportive right now. Even though Gift Nifty is slightly positive (+0.24%), indicating a flat to mild gap-up opening, the overall setup doesn’t look strong. India 10Y yield has also moved up to 6.82%, which is something to keep an eye on along with crude and rupee. So overall, expect a cautious start. Upside may face resistance unless we see strength in banks and index heavyweights.
