Sona Comstar Enters China’s EV Market with New Joint Venture.

Sona BLW Precision Forgings (Sona Comstar), a Gurugram-based mobility tech firm, is stepping into China’s booming electric vehicle (EV) market. The company has signed a joint venture deal with China’s Jinnaite Machinery (JNT) to manufacture and supply driveline systems for global carmakers. In the first phase, Sona Comstar will invest $12 million, while JNT will contribute $8 million. The new JV is expected to start operations in the second half of the current financial year. China is currently the world’s largest EV market—selling 11 million electric vehicles in 2024, which accounts for nearly two-thirds of global EV sales. Chinese automakers alone held a massive 76% share in global EV sales last year. This makes China a key region for any EV-focused company. Sona Comstar plans to expand its footprint in fast-growing Asian markets including India, China, Japan, and South Korea, while continuing to grow in North America and Europe. This JV supports that strategy by establishing local manufacturing for EV driveline systems directly in China. The partnership will combine Sona Comstar’s expertise in precision forging and driveline design with JNT’s strength in casting and molding. Together, they aim to become a key supplier of EV driveline parts in the region. This move gives Sona Comstar a strategic entry into the heart of global EV manufacturing—right where the growth and innovation are happening at the fastest pace.
