Weekly Analysis of Indian Stock Market - March 1st Week, 2026.

It was a difficult week for equities. Nifty slipped 2.89% to 25,450, while Bank Nifty corrected sharply by 4.54%, signalling clear pressure in financials. The broader market also weakened, with Midcaps (-2.91%) and Smallcaps (-2.54%) ending lower. Sectoral performance reflected the risk-off mood. Realty, Media and Oil & Gas were among the biggest laggards, while Auto, FMCG and Metals also traded under pressure. Defence remained the standout pocket of strength, gaining close to 5% during the week. Institutional flows continued to move in opposite directions. Foreign investors pulled out ₹21,831 Cr, while domestic institutions stepped in with buying of ₹32,787 Cr, cushioning the fall to some extent. Options positioning suggests traders remain cautious. PCR at 0.67 indicates defensive positioning, with heavy call open interest clustered between 25,000 and 26,000. On the downside, put writers are active near 24,000 and 23,500, with deeper support visible closer to 22,750. Macro developments also played a role. Brent crude climbed to around $92.87 amid escalating Middle East tensions, while the rupee weakened to 91.90 and bond yields edged higher, adding to the cautious tone. Going into the new week, markets appear to be navigating global uncertainty, rising energy prices and firm derivatives resistance overhead.
