Jindal Steel Ltd helped by a ₹7,500/tonne increase

JINDALSTEL
reported Q1 FY27 consolidated profit after tax of ₹844 crore, up roughly 35% year-on-year, helped by a ₹7,500/tonne increase in average selling price that more than offset volume dips from maintenance shutdowns. The company has appointed Vidya Rattan Sharma as Managing Director and Sandeep Modi as CFO, with the new leadership emphasising a shift away from pure commodity volumes toward a richer product mix and better realisations. Management reiterated a medium-term capacity target of 15.6 million tonnes, supported by ramp-up at Angul and cost-control initiatives; net debt stood at about ₹15,927 crore with a debt-to-EBITDA ratio near 1.7x. On the regulatory front, Jindal Steel received an Odisha VAT/GST order disallowing some input-tax credit and imposing a penalty, but said the impact is immaterial and plans to appeal. The stock was trading around ₹1,157–₹1,165, with a market capitalisation of roughly ₹1.19 lakh crore.
