ABB Secures Major Traction Order for Mumbai Metro Expansion 🚆

ABB India has secured a significant traction and control systems order from Titagarh Rail Systems for the upcoming Mumbai Metro Line 5 (Orange Line) and Line 6 (Pink Line), strengthening its presence in India’s rapidly expanding metro rail ecosystem. The order involves supplying integrated propulsion systems and Train Control & Management System (TCMS) software for 40 six-car metro trainsets—18 for Line 6 and 22 for Line 5. These metro corridors will play a key role in improving connectivity across Mumbai, reducing travel time, and easing road congestion for daily commuters. ABB’s scope of supply includes traction converters, auxiliary converters, traction motors, and TCMS software, offering a complete, energy-efficient and reliable traction solution. Manufacturing will be carried out locally, with converters produced in Bengaluru and motors manufactured in Vadodara, supported by ABB’s Indian engineering and service teams. A major highlight of this order is that it marks ABB’s entry into the 25 kV AC metro segment in India, a significant technological milestone. The project further strengthens ABB’s strategic partnership with Titagarh, established in 2023, focused on localization, technology collaboration, and long-term participation in India’s metro rail growth. The order aligns well with the Government’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, supporting domestic manufacturing, local value creation, and a resilient rail supply chain. With this win, ABB reinforces its role as a trusted technology partner in India’s urban mobility transformation, combining global expertise with strong local execution.
