📰 Adani Ports, NMDC & Vale Brazil Sign Strategic MoU on Iron Ore

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NMDC Limited and Vale S.A. to develop a world-class iron ore blending and export ecosystem at Gangavaram Port. The agreement was formalised at the India–Brazil Business Forum Summit in New Delhi during the official visit of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil, and in the presence of Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry. The collaboration highlights strengthening trade ties between India and Brazil in the minerals and logistics sector. Under the MoU, the parties will jointly establish an integrated iron ore blending facility within a dedicated Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Gangavaram Port. The project will include mechanised berthing and cargo-handling infrastructure capable of accommodating Valemax vessels — the world’s largest Very Large Ore Carriers (VLOCs) with capacities of up to 400,000 tonnes. With this development, Gangavaram Port’s capacity is expected to increase to 75 million metric tonnes (MMT), positioning it as a major hub for iron ore exports from India’s East Coast. The initiative aims to enhance supply chain efficiency, enable value addition, and strengthen India’s competitiveness in global mineral trade. APSEZ currently operates 15 ports and terminals across India with a cargo handling capacity of 633 million tonnes per annum and accounts for approximately 28% of the country’s total port volumes. The company targets achieving 1 billion tonnes of throughput by 2030. *Disclaimer: This article is for informational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice.*
