**Bharat Electronics Signs 50:50 JV with Safran for HAMMER Weapon System**

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has approved the signing of a Joint Venture Agreement with Safran Electronics and Defense (France) for the HAMMER weapon system project. The Board cleared the proposal on 15 February 2026, marking a strategic step toward strengthening India’s precision-guided defence capabilities. The proposed JV will be incorporated in India with a 50:50 equity split between both partners. It will establish a dedicated “Center of Excellence” for manufacturing, supply, maintenance, and repair of the HAMMER Guidance Kit (GK). The key end users are expected to be the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. The Board will comprise four directors — two nominated by each company — ensuring balanced governance. Operationalisation remains subject to regulatory approvals in India and France. This collaboration enhances BEL’s high-technology defence portfolio and supports India’s indigenisation push under strategic defence partnerships. **Disclaimer:** This article is for informational and educational purposes only.
