Delhivery Successfully Tests Autonomous Logistics Drone in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria

Delhivery Ltd, India’s largest fully integrated logistics provider, has announced the successful testing of its autonomous VTOL (Vertical Take-off and Landing) logistics drone in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh. The demonstration, conducted by its subsidiary Delhivery Robotics India Pvt Ltd, showcased a 12 km autonomous flight carrying medicines — a journey that typically takes around 40 minutes by road but was completed in just 12 minutes. The test was witnessed by Shri Shashank Mani, Hon’ble MP from Deoria, who highlighted the potential of drone-based connectivity in boosting accessibility and supporting the state’s vision of a digitally connected rural ecosystem under Project Amrit Prayas. Delhivery’s prototype drone is capable of carrying up to 5 kg payloads across 60–90 km on a single charge, leveraging a hybrid design that takes off vertically like a helicopter and cruises like an airplane. A heavier 20-kg payload platform is also under development. The company emphasized that drone logistics will not only enhance last-mile delivery—turning ‘next-day’ into ‘next-hour’ for critical shipments—but also generate skilled employment in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities through new roles such as drone pilots and maintenance engineers.
