Gold rates today: MCX gold jumps over ₹2,200 to record ₹1.36 lakh per 10g; silver tops ₹2.14 lakh/kg

Gold prices scaled fresh lifetime highs on December 22, extending the strong rally in precious metals as global markets priced in the possibility of US Federal Reserve rate cuts in 2026. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold surged by more than ₹2,200 to touch a record high of ₹1,36,458 per 10 grams, registering an impressive 77.5% year-to-date gain. Silver followed suit, climbing to an all-time high of ₹2,14,583 per kilogram on MCX. The surge was driven by a mix of safe-haven demand and expectations of easier global monetary conditions. The sharp rally in bullion reflects investor reassessment of long-term interest rate trajectories. Lower future interest rates generally support non-yielding assets like gold and silver. Ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and steady investment inflows have further reinforced bullish sentiment in the precious metals space. With both gold and silver trading at record levels, market participants are now closely monitoring global macroeconomic cues, currency movements, and central bank commentary to assess whether the rally can sustain or witness near-term consolidation.
